CXXIII: What Better Time Than Now To Redecorate?

I am currently in need of items to make my common areas better suited to my new, and potentially ongoing, lifestyle changes. Given that I’ll be in a transitionary period for a while to come, I figure that now is as good a time as any to switch it up!

I want more space to workout indoors (since it can’t seem to stop raining here).

I also need a space to stretch, meditate, and reflect.

And, I need an official workspace.

The obstacle, however, is that I am quite limited on space (square-footage-wise) and I am attempting to go from a bit of a hoarding lifestyle to that of a modern, minimalist lifestyle.

That being said, I’m going to start with a room update! Really, I just want to add a desk and change out my bookcase, so this post is all about reaching aesthetic-gold by finding the perfect desk to add to my room.

Initially, I was thinking modern, which is usually minimal, bright, and simple. So, I started with simple white desks.

In an attempt to jazz them up a bit, I’m choosing between a gold and a black trim/finish.

I don’t want the desk to be too bland but given that my bed has a rustic feel to it, adding anything too colorful may take away from the calm country vibe that my room currently has.

The problem with this simple white desk is the light wooden features. The light brown details in the legs of this desk would completely clash with the rustic brown of my bed, dressers and vanity.

So, although I do like the modern feel of this choice, it just won’t work with what’s already going on in my room.

So this soft gray wooden desk with black legs is super appealing!

I really like the simplicity of it and the fact that it’s made to fit perfectly in a corner. That makes it super easy to place and also makes it ideal for those trying to fill corner spaces — which can oftentimes be difficult.

To add:

You can’t go wrong with a desk that allows for storage! This desk comes with a drawer and a lower-level shelf. I usually store my books on my bookshelf but would need places like this shelf for my pens, pencils and notebooks.

This desk would be perfect for storage, but the color is off (this whole color thing is way more difficult than I thought it would be)!

I also ran into the same problem with the classic desk below.

My final choice Ended Up Being…

Lommarp
Dark blue-green desk.
Ikea.
$149.00 usd

This ended up being the perfect fit for the purpose that I plan on using it for. It fits perfectly in the area between my bathroom and my walk-in closet and (hopefully) won’t take away too much space in-between my bed.

I’m pleased with the overall color of the desk as well. I figure it’ll be a pleasant and different pop of color for my room and could even serve to start a theme.
