CXXXII: The Power In Pessimism — A Realist’s Perspective.

Pessimism is the tendency to see the worst aspect of things or believe that the worst will happen.

I consider myself a pessimist if the scale goes from optimist-positivist to pessimist-realist. I couldn’t even honestly claim the middle ground because I honestly think straight towards the worst of any situation.

IT SHOULD BE NOTED, HOWEVER, THAT THINKING OF THE WORST CASE SCENARIO IS ONLY A BAD THING IF YOU MAKE IT.

Let’s discuss what it means to be a realist and then we’ll get into what it is that I’m saying:

A Realist is someone who recognizes, is aware of, and accepts the universe, events, etc. as they are. You can liken a realist to a pragmatist who deals with things sensibly and realistically based on practical rather than theoretical considerations.

WHAT ALL OF THIS MEANS IS THAT…

While everyone was swimming laps in the positivist pool and believing that they could make millions with just a good mindset, I was thinking practically and tactically to accomplish my goals.

A lot of the times this just means that my back up plans have back up plans, and that I always have my hand in multiple endeavors because I remain fully aware of the fact that any one of these things could fall through at any moment and I want to be as prepared as possible.

However, people take the fact that I’d rather have multiple plans to mean that I just don’t believe in myself or that I don’t have faith. And, again, I want it to be known that the two ideas could coexist. I can have multiple plans and backup plans for those and still have faith.

There’s honestly so much power in seeing the bad in situations. And, because this doesn’t automatically mean that you can’t see the good also, it gives you a dual perspective that is oftentimes needed.

My outlooks and mindsets are the things that keep me going. They keep me motivated and are largely the reasons that I am so willing to take leaps in life.

Many may see pessimism as a big negative but I want to encourage everyone to see the usefulness in thinking differently.
