CXVI: With All The Gimmicky "Fitness Freaks" Out There, You Should Be A Bit More Careful...

WE HAVE HIT THE AGE OF THE INTERNET [AND SOCIAL MEDIA] AND SUDDENLY EVERYONE IS AN EXPERT.

Look, with all of the “fitness freaks/fanatics/gurus/instructors/etc.” out there floating in the Social world, you should exercise the utmost caution! I cannot stress enough the importance of learning to do something and learning to do it correctly.

The vast majority of the “fit kids'“ that I see working out down my timelines (be it Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or Pinterest) are doing these workouts incorrectly. So when vulnerable and gullible viewers longing for that mainstream media Coke-bottle shape that many of us aren’t made to have, see your incorrect videos, they head to their nearest Planet Fitness (yes, shade) and attempt to do the workouts as they saw them! And the next thing you know, everyone needs a chiropractor.

Now, I don’t mind giving doctors and chiropractors (and plastic surgeons, because, Let’s Be Real) around the world a continuous paycheck, but come on people! If it doesn’t feel right on your body, why are you doing it, recording it, and posting it?!

If you absolutely have to find someone on the internet to watch in order to “learn” how to workout, then at least watch those who have studied: the body, muscle groups, diet plans and nutrition, and overall health.

DO YOU KNOW THAT YOU HAVE TO BE CERTIFIED TO BECOME A FITNESS INSTRUCTOR?

DO YOU KNOW THAT YOU NEED A BACHELOR’S DEGREE TO BECOME A CERTIFIED HEALTH COACH?

DO YOU KNOW THAT INSTAGRAM IS NOT THE SCHOOL WHERE YOU GET THESE CERTIFICATIONS?

Most of these Instagram accounts that people follow today for their alleged “fitness journeys” are just social media personalities that have gotten a lot of likes. These people have not been trained on the proper diets and nutrition. A lot of them, from what I’ve seen, don’t even work out different muscle groups beyond their glutes and their hamstrings (women in particular #DoBetter)!

We have got to do better as a society, and, women in general I am speaking to you… JUST DO BETTER!

ONE MORE THING:

I want to make it crystal clear that there are different body types out there. People are made differently and I know that this news may be shocking to those striving to look like everyone else or like Kim K. and her purchased parts. You simply may not be made to look that way. And honestly, you shouldn’t force it! 🤷🏾‍♀️

Just to touch on the different body types a bit without getting too science-y:

An Ectomorph is a thin, lean, body type that generally struggles to build muscle. This is your typical “Skinny-Minnie”.

An Endomorph is generally bigger, higher in fat, and most likely pear-shaped 🍐. This body type has the tendency to store body fat.

Finally, the mesomorph which is usually the muscular, “well-built” body with a high metabolism and responsive muscle cells.

Knowing your body type is about as powerful as knowing your hair type when you’re a textured-girl like myself! It helps you determine which goals to strive towards and which ones are simply unobtainable.

The goal of this post is simply to get at least one person’s mind out of the horrid La La Land that people (mostly girls) are living in. I know that certain body types get more attention, I get it, but health is more important than a couple of likes and superficial conversations. I promise you! 👌🏾
