Academic Opportunity (B Goals)

To me, academia has an allure that I can’t quite explain.

In line with this, I’ve always had the goal of expanding my blog just a bit more into academic exploration. Specially, I want to tour various campuses around the world and seek out the different offerings in terms of academic opportunity.

What Do I Mean By Academic Opportunity?

Well, “academic opportunity” is a phrase that I’m using to encompass the full gamut of academic offerings at a university — what programs are available to prospective students, how are they advertised to the students, does alumni speak to the variety, echelon, inclusivity or exclusivity, etc.?

Does the program walk what it talks in terms of academic offerings, is my question! The only way to know this for sure is to get in there and experience it!

How will I Gauge This?

The best way to see the campus offerings is to go and ask questions, sit in on a meeting or two (if permitted), engage, and again, ask questions.

As a lifelong learner I can see the importance of understanding what you’re getting into before you get into it. There’s only so much shifting that can happen once you start a program, so it’s always better to make sure that you’re starting the right program at the right time!

Shouldn’t I start with a list of universities?

Starting my mini academic opportunity tour is going to be fun but needs to be strategically planned.

There are certain times of year that cause admissions and touring opportunities of universities to be swamped so I certainly want to avoid adding to their plates during those times.

The bright side is, with this type of bird’s eye search, it’s also easy to just walk the campus and read various info-boards and bulletin boards to get a feel for the offerings. In addition to this, I’d be hard pressed to find a university that does not have a book’s worth of knowledge online about their campuses offerings so I have plenty to work with to start out.

Regardless of how and where I start, I cannot wait to get going! Bringing this into the blog will be fun, but also interesting as I truly don’t want to be another person walking around with a camera in people’s faces all day. I want to truly experience the different campuses and communities. So, creativity I’ll have to figure out how to gather and present the information and findings, but I can’t wait to bring university and academic content to the blog either way!

Best,
Bree
