Podcasts You Should Bend Your Ear To!

The Read

I mentioned The Read in my last “Podcasts to listen to” post and I’m mentioning them again because it’s been more than 10 years and they are still my favorite pop culture podcast.

I can listen to them while working or while working out and they always make me laugh. They provide a weekly dose of entertainment that I certainly rely on to get me through each week and it helps that they’re both extreme Beyonce fans just like me!

In Proximity

Run exclusively by members of In Proximity, this podcast is about all things TV and Film.

This is definitely my draw to the podcast because tips and tricks on all things screenwriting are what I’m always on the hunt for. Especially with Creatives like Ryan Coogler. There are a ton of nuggets dropped on this podcast that I think that any Creative could benefit from, so if podcasts are your guilty pleasure then definitely add this one to the list.

Improv With Jav

This podcast is run by San Francisco’s own, Javier Reyes.

You may know him for his dedication to the youth, but if you keep peeling back the layers, you get so much more! This man is tapping into topics like accessing mental health services, access to college for youths, and spreading the gospel around. He has a way with words and a voice like butter, so if you’re looking for an easy-listen, please put Improv with Jav into your podcast rotation.

I may be biased because he’s given me a shoutout on his podcast at one point, but I was a fan before and will remain a fan! Check him out!

2 Writers Talking Shit

Now, again, maybe I’m biased but after linking with Saeed Crumpler at a Bay Area event, I had to keep an ear to what he was doing and all of the ways that he was winning and he did not disappoint. The guy keeps winning and I love to see it! Now he’s hosting a podcast alongside a long-time friend, and I have to say that I thoroughly enjoy the nuggets that the various guests drop. The podcast is called 2 Writers Talking Shit and it’s another one that I’m not mad at at all!

To top that off, this is another voice that I can just play in the background while I go about my day. This man’s voice sounds like grown man mixed with experience, sultriness and seasoning salt.

But, on a serious note, this podcast has given me so many industry and screenwriting nuggets, and I have two favorite episodes that come to mind but I’m truly going to leave it to you, the Readers, to check it out for yourself.

As always, thanks for reading and keep reading! Reading is becoming a dying sport, a diminishing hobby and a deteriorating pastime, let’s not let that happen!

Read more and write more.

P.S. if you haven’t watched The Deepest Breath on Netflix, then you definitely should. I was holding my breath watching it and applaud the insane amount of athleticism that it takes to do what they do. To literally live believing that you’re alive with a glorious and worthwhile purpose and work to achieve it while making other people love you and believe in you has to make life worth living… And, a love story never hurts a life story — this one definitely reminded me that there’s so much power in a true connection… so much that a simple hug can truly remind you what it’s like to experience a genuine adoration.

Best,

Bree
