Italian Food I Love (Casarecce + Creamy Pesto)

I have been cooking one Italian dish a week lately and I have to tell you, it’s way more difficult than it looks!

So! Instead cooking this one, I took myself out to the Crocker Museum, toured a potential new home and then enjoyed some delicious Italian food and lovely conversation.

I started with bread, softened butter and an aperol spritz (I had to).

While I’ve never been a fan of sourdough bread, I never mind dousing it in butter and solely partaking in the middles. That’s exactly what I did here which is why you do NOT get an “after” picture.

Alongside the bread, I enjoyed a refreshing aperol spritz! An aperol spritz is comprised of Aperol, an Italian bitter aperitif, Prosecco and soda water. It’s is vibrant (from the aperol liqeur) and provides a great zing with a splash of fresh fruit! It’s definitely a refreshing choice if you’re looking for summer (or spring) in a glass, and it’s not too hard on the eyes either.

I paired this with a delicious Casarecce E Pollo (hold the pollo)! This is definitely my favorite menu item largely due to the fact that a creamy pesto sauce is perfectly light and comforting at the same time. It’s a delicious combination paired with sun dried tomatoes and add shredded Parmesan cheese on top and you’ve got a sharp, creamy and savory pasta dish.

Finally, I ordered and Affogato which is vanilla gelato, espresso (I add caramel) and this particular affogato had three deliciously semi-sweet dark chocolate’s floating on top that fully enhanced the overall flavor profile. It’s definitely at the top of the list when it comes to my all time favorite affogatos!

Big thanks to Il Fornaio for the delicious meal and amazing company. I’ll certainly be back.
